SYNCHROTRON STRATEGY RIGHT ON TARGET
13 December 2006
The Australian Academy of Science congratulates the Australian Synchrotron community on developing a decadal strategic plan that gives clear priorities in developing the Australian Synchrotron's capabilities.
In identifying emerging opportunities in science, the synchrotron community has had a keen regard for national scientific strengths and for the national interest. It is alert to important international trends.
The Council of the Australian Academy of Science today endorsed the Australian and New Zealand Synchrotron-Based Science Strategic Plan 2006.
Academy President Professor Kurt Lambeck, said: 'The top priority for the Australian Synchrotron community is completion of the initial suite of beamlines to world-class standard.
'This will permit major advances in structural biology, medical imaging and therapy, pharmaceuticals, minerals processing and materials science, to name just a few areas of science that will benefit from access to the Synchrotron.
'Cooperation within the scientific community, nationally and internationally, has resulted in an exceptionally well-targeted decadal strategic plan.'
